A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
I could never have imagined the times we find ourselves in, but I find myself eternally grateful for the organization we have built in this community. At the heart of Lake Tahoe Dance Collective is the passion with which the dancers enter the studio, whether for class or rehearsal, to give their all. While ballet class has been a part of my daily routine for my entire life, I know now more than ever how truly essential it is for all dancers.
In this sentiment, I am more than pleased to announce that we will be able to start up classes this week, and get back to dancing! Most importantly, we are offering this series of classes on a pay-what-you-can basis, so that no one may be denied the opportunity to return to their dance community.
We will of course be doing so with the utmost vigilance for everyone’s health and safety. With the consult of an adviser in public health, we’ve come up with a plan that will keep us as safe as possible. While I know many of us are eager to get back to normal, I must be particularly careful with my husband’s auto-immune and pulmonary issues. These put him in the very high risk population, so I can absolutely not be bringing anything home with me.
We have graciously been granted a lot in Tahoma where we were able to set up our portable stage, measuring 24’x28’. Being outdoors is FAR safer than indoors… so for right now this is our plan. This will allow for a maximum of 4 dancers plus myself to be properly socially distanced and still have room to move around amply. After all, we’re all tired of dancing in our kitchens - the point is to get back to the real thing!
During class, requirements will be as follows:
One dancer per barre, to be disinfected before and after use
All dancers and myself are required to wear masks at all times
Temperature will be taken prior to class utilizing a touchless, infrared thermometer
The pre-class checklist that allows dancers to attend will look like this (A dancer who answers NO to the above four questions and has a normal temperature upon arrival will be permitted to take class):
have you felt any symptoms in the past 2W (fever, sore throat, body aches, etc)
Is anyone in your house sick, or have they been sick in the past 2W?
Have you been in the presence of anyone known to have COVID 19 symptoms in the past 2W?
Have you traveled outside of the Tahoe area in the past 2W?
As you can imagine, this protocol also requires legal changes in our liability release, which you will find linked below this message and must be completed by the participant (if over 18) or the parent/guardian for minors.
For parents making the drive, there is public beach access at Chamber’s Landing, which is a 10-minute walk, as well as ample trails for walking/hiking/running in the neighborhood as well as at Sugar Pine State Park.
I look forward to seeing you in class!
